Qualified Medical Doctor with 7 Years Teaching Experience Helps GCSE Students Improve Grades in Science and Maths

About the lesson

I am a qualified Medical Doctor with over 7 years of experience teaching and tutoring secondary school students. I specialize in GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, as well as KS3 Science. My background in medicine provides me with a strong scientific foundation and an analytical approach to teaching. I combine this with years of classroom and one-to-one tutoring experience to help students understand complex topics in a simple and structured way. I understand that many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because concepts are not always explained clearly. My aim is to bridge that gap by making Science and Mathematics logical, accessible, and engaging. I am committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and improving at their own pace. Each lesson is tailored to the individual needs of the student, with a strong focus on both understanding and exam success. Over the years, I have helped students improve their grades significantly by focusing on: Clear understanding of key concepts Strong exam technique using past paper practice Step-by-step problem solving Confidence building and consistent progress My goal is to help every student reach their full academic potential, whether they are working towards passing their exams or aiming for top grades.

My Teaching Approach Teaching Method and Techniques My teaching approach is structured, interactive, and exam-focused. I aim to make Science and Mathematics clear and logical rather than overwhelming or based on memorisation. I use a combination of: Step-by-step explanations of key concepts Real GCSE exam questions and past paper practice Active questioning to check understanding during lessons Simple analogies to explain difficult topics in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths Targeted revision techniques to improve retention and recall My goal is not just to help students “know the answer,” but to help them understand why the answer is correct so they can apply it confidently in exams. Typical Lesson Plan Each lesson is structured to ensure steady progress and clarity: Quick Recap (5–10 minutes) Review previous topics or homework to strengthen memory and retention. Topic Introduction (10–15 minutes) I explain the new concept in simple steps using real-life examples where possible. Guided Practice (20–25 minutes) We work through exam-style questions together, step by step. Independent Practice (10–15 minutes) The student attempts similar questions while I assess understanding and correct mistakes. Exam Focus & Summary (5–10 minutes) We review key points, exam tips, and common mistakes to avoid. Homework / Revision Task Short, targeted practice to reinforce learning between lessons. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor I am a qualified Medical Doctor, which gives me a strong scientific foundation and analytical approach to teaching Science and Maths Over 7 years of teaching experience with secondary school students I specialise in simplifying complex topics into easy, step-by-step explanations I focus heavily on exam technique and past paper mastery, not just theory I adapt every lesson to the student’s individual learning pace and ability I build students’ confidence so they can approach exams calmly and effectively
